Project of the Month

Each month I feature a different charity to support by making a craft to donate. The timeline below shows my upcoming crafts in case you like to plan ahead.
Timeline

During the month of June I will be crocheting care bears (and other animals) to be sen't to children around the world via Operation Christmas Child. OCC is a charity that fills shoeboxes with toys, soap, toothbrushes, and other gifts to go to children in third world countries. Along with a box of goodies the children will receive a workbook and the gospel message in their own language. To learn more about Operation Christmas Child visit their website:

www.samaritanspurse.org/occ

Bears should be small enough to fit in a shoebox with room to spare, and can be sewn, crocheted, or, if your feeling ambitious, knitted. The bears are for children so please construct your bears sturdily and be careful to secure any buttons/small parts. For the crochet pattern I used go to my Care Bears Project in projects --> crochet

Cookie

Cookie

Scaredy Cat

Cookie is the jumpiest cat you ever saw. Something moves 'AH! Run away!' Somebody talks 'Ah! Run away!' A fly buzzes by 'Ah! Run away!' (No seriously she's scared of flies.)

Cream

Cream

Kitty brat

Cream is a spoiled little fluff ball who enjoys walking on keyboards, climbing on laps, and breaking whatever I'm working on just to get a little attention.

Leo

Leo

Fluff butt

Leo is amiable and curious. He likes walking around his humans feet, chasing Bella around, and climbing into anywhere he fits.

Bella

Bella

Queen of the Jungle

Bella is friendly and sweet. She loves attention and prefers girls to guys. Her favorite time of day is nap time and she gets mad if her 'subjects' change their schedule.

GusGus

Gus Gus

Marshmallow

Quiet and unassuming, Gus Gus loves nothing more than peace and quiet. Named after the mouse in Cinderella he lives up to his name by fearlessly hunting down the few unfortunate mice that make their way into our house.

Teddy Bear

Care Bears

Miniature teddy bears with an optional tutu additon. So cute!

Dragonfly

Dragonfly Amigurumi

A fun 3d dragonfly plush, complete with wire rimmed wings.

Charities

Charities contains a collection of the charities I support and send projects to. All my favorites are here with links to many of my projects. Enjoy browsing through the photos and keep an eye out for seasonal projects, marked with a clock icon.

Craft charities master list

The Red Scarf Project - The red scarf project sends scarves to college students that grew up in the foster system, reminding them that they are loved and remembered even after leaving the system. Scarves should be around 60” long and 5” to 8” wide. Every scarf must be red but it can be any shade of red (burgundy, cherry, russet, ect.) or multicolored. Securely sew in your yarn ends and please include a small note with a message such as "handmade for you!" Scarves will only be accepted between September 1 and December 15 annually and should be mailed to: 23811 Chagrin Blvd., Suite 210, Cleveland, OH 44122
For more information visit the Foster Care To Success website right: Here

Operation Christmas Child - OCC packs, processes and sends care packages in the form of shoeboxes to children across the world. Specializing in third world countries and areas that have been hit by a natural disaster OCC, which is a subdivision of Samaritans Purse, shares the gospel with children while providing them with toys, hygiene products, clothing and more in the form of a tangible gift. Personally I pack a shoebox every year and in 2019 I got the opportunity to travel to Charlotte, South Carolina and volunteer at their processing center there. I have only ever had good experiences with this charity and I have heard firsthand accounts of the impact these simple gifts can have on someones life. For more information and instructions on packing your shoebox visit the OCC website right: Here

Operation Gratitude - Operation Gratitude's Handmade With Love program sends scarves to those who serve in the military, often overseas or far from home. Please keep your scarves within 4”-6” wide, 48”-50” long. But other than that any pattern is acceptable. Any soft yarn is fine and any color will be accepted, but if possible keep your colors on the subtle side—blues, browns, greens, grays, maroon, and black are all good choices, and also appropriate for male and female Troops. Fill out a donation form and send your completed scarves to:Operation Gratitude ATTN: Handmade with Love Program 9409 Owensmouth Ave Chatsworth, CA 91311-4278 To learn more visit the Operation Gratitude website right: Here
